Your FT-60R has been configured, at the factory, for the repeater shifts customary in your country. For the 144 MHz band shift will be 600 kHz; on the 430 MHz band, the shift may be 1.6 MHz, 7.6 MHz, or 5 MHz (USA version). See page 75. FT-60R O EPEATER PERATION. When “TSQL” is displayed, this means that the Tone SQueLch system is active, which mutes your FT-60R’s receiver until it receives a call from another radio sending out a matching CTCSS tone. This can help keep your radio quiet until a specific call is received, which may be helpful while operating in congested areas of the band. Your repeater system may be configured for DCS;. Tone Scanning works either in the VFO or Memory modes. PERATION DCS O ” will appear on the display; in the case of DCS, FT-60R O. Once access to the repeater has been gained, you may release the MONI key, and use the PTT key for activating the transmitter thereafter.Whenever you recall a memory which contains inde- pendently-stored transmit and receive frequencies, the “ ” indication will appear in the display. FT-60R O. If a Split Frequency Memory channel was transferred, the TX frequency will be ignored (you will be set up for Simplex operation on the Receive frequency). FT-60R O. Fortunately, the FT-60R includes provision for dividing the memories into as many as ten Memory Groups, so you can categorize the memories in a manner convenient to you. See page 39 for details regarding activation of this mode. FT-60R O U. S. V 162.550 MHz 162.500 MHz. It will halt on signals encountered, so you can talk to the station(s) on that frequency, if you like. Scanning operation is basically the same in each of the above modes. Before you begin, take a moment to select the way in which you would like the scanner to resume scanning after it halts on a signal. If you want to change direction of the scan while it is underway, rotate the DIAL knob one click in the opposite direction (in this case, one click counter-clockwise).

The FT-60R will initially be operating in the “VFO” mode, a channelized system which allows free tuning throughout the currently-selected operating band. Three basic frequency navigation methods are available on the FT-60R:. The FT-60R will then hold on that frequency according to the setting of the “RESUME” mode (Set Mode Item 34: RESUME). Press the PTT switch momentarily to cancel the scanning. These are the most basic steps; more advanced aspects of transmitter operation will be discussed later. These channels are designated by a blinking “ ” icon when you have selected them, one by one, for the Preferential Scan List. When the Weather Alert Scan feature is engaged, the FT-60R will check the Weather Broadcast Memory Channels for activity every five seconds while scanning. If you watch. This yields a long period of monitoring time, as no power will be consumed via audio output while scanning for the Alert Tone is in progress. The FT-60R will automatically “beep” when a band edge is encountered during scanning (either in standard VFO scanning or during PMS operation). You may also enable this feature (band edge beeper) to operate when the frequency reaches the band edge while tuning using the DIAL knob. Dispose of them through your electrical dealer or local recycling centre. The battery in this device does not contain toxic substances. Switch on the thermometer with the “ ” button. This is indicated by the symbol.Move the thermometer to and over the temple. During the measurement you can hear short beeps signalling that the thermometer has found a new maximum temperature. The end of the measuring time is signalled with a long beep. Release the “SCAN” button. You can now read off the temperature measured. The measurement normally takes from 5 to 8 seconds, but can take up to 30 seconds. The thermometer signals with two short beeps and a no longer flashing forehead symbol that the thermometer is ready for a new measurement. There are 9 memory locations available for this. You can call up the last temperature measured with the “ POWER ” button. The date and time are also shown. The LED does not support any requests for stored measured values. If you continue to hold down the “ POWER ”, you will enter a special measuring mode, in which the thermometer will not make a correct measurement. In this event, allow the thermometer to switch off automatically after about 1 minute and then switch it on again. With the thermometer switched on (standard forehead thermometer mode) keep the “ ” button depressed and at the same time press the “ SCAN ” button. This mode is indicated with the symbol. If you keep the “ SCAN ” button depressed, the surface temperature measured is continuously displayed. You can apply the sensor tip directly to the surface to be measured or measure at close range (do not immerse in liquids). Note that the temperature displayed is the surface temperature measured but not adjusted. It cannot be compared with the forehead temperature. This mode is identified by the symbol and the ambient temperature is shown continuously.

If you want to use the thermometer to measure the ambient temperature, it should be positioned so that the measurement is not influenced by solar radiation or other influences such as cold draughts from air-conditioning systems. In addition to the ambient temperature, which is updated once every minute, the date and time are displayed alternately. With the thermometer switched off or in standby mode, select the unit by holding down the “SCAN” button and at the same time pressing the “ ” button. Keep the two buttons depressed until the temperature unit changes. All stored temperatures are displayed in the new temperature unit. Use a clean cloth or cotton bud that can be moistened with disinfectant, alcohol or warm water. To clean the entire device, use a soft cloth slightly moistened with a mild soapy solution. Water must never get into the device. If water gets into the device, remove the battery immediately. Only use the device again when it is completely dry. Do not use any harsh cleaning agents. Never immerse the device in water. Always store the thermometer with the cap on in order to protect the sensor. The device must not be stored or used at too high or low a temperature or humidity (see 9. technical data), in sunlight, in association with an electrical current or in dusty locations. Otherwise, inaccuracies can occur. If prolonged storage is intended, you should remove the battery. If you have any queries, please refer to the local authorities responsible for waste disposal. This document is an effort to provide help in learning to use this powerful feature. While there are other documents available, including the “ FT - 60R Operating Manual”, perhaps another perspective will help. If you agree, read on. The Operations Manual uses several terms in the discussions on memory operation. The terms used are “CHANNEL”, “ BANK ” and “GROUP”. Most of us are likely quite familiar with the concept of a CHANNEL. The FT - 60R has 1000 standard memory CHANNELS, numbered from 000 to 999. You can read about this starting on page 27 of the manual. It also has some other special use CHANNELS, but these are not related to MEMORY BANK operation. One note of caution: the manual suggests on page 27 that the PMS (Programmable Memory Scan) channels can be assigned to a BANK. We will follow the latter direction. A GROUP is just another way to say a BANK. The MEMORY BANK feature is a way to organize these 1000 CHANNELS so as to make it easier to use the memory feature. The FT - 60R has 10 BANK S; each BANK can contain a list of up to 1000 channels. An important concept to grasp is that a memory BANK does not actually contain the memory CHANNEL information itself. A BANK or GROUP is merely a list of CHANNELS. You might think of a BANK as being a folder containing a sheet of paper with list of CHANNELS. Each BANK can contain in its list 1000 CHANNEL numbers. You may list any CHANNEL in each BANK if you want. When operating in the MEMORY BANK mode, the radio merely recalls the CHANNEL information from its memory location and uses it to tune the radio for the desired transmit and receive frequencies.

The power of the MEMORY BANK feature is that you can select a BANK and the radio then operates on only the memory CHANNELS included in that BANK. This applies to manually selected CHANNELS using the DIAL knob as well as when scanning CHANNELS. In this document we will cover how to add CHANNELS to BANK S, how to remove a CHANNEL from a BANK, how to enable operation on a particular BANK and how to revert from BANK operation back to normal MEMORY or VFO operation. The radio provides 10 MEMORY BANK S, numbered 1 through 10. They have no individual characteristics, you can put any channel into any bank. You would do well to plan out how you will organize your BANK s to make it easy for you to perform a specific activity, such as local repeaters, ARES frequencies or emergency service frequencies you want to scan. One additional feature is that the radio will allow you to link two or more BANK S while scanning. This allows expanded coverage without modifying the contents of any BANK.Thank you, for helping us keep this platform clean. The editors will have a look at it as soon as possible.
